The Big ONE!

Well, the big day has come and gone. We had a wonderful weekend! Most of our family came in on Friday, so we had a casual dinner, cake and presents here at the house. Then Saturday we had the big sha-bang. Our cowboy b-b-q party went very smoothly, aside from Chase and I being sick with a yucky cold :( Chase was a trooper, he even managed to get down and play with his friends for a while. On Sunday, we decided to have a relaxing morning at home with Ryan's family instead of taking him into the city for his first haircut (which he needs!) Chase needed some extra bonding time with his grandparents, Uncle Randy and Aunt Jeannie.
Overall, the weekend was a success. I was so busy with the party plans and family events that I didn't have much time to be sad about my baby being so big.

Looking Back

My friend Suzannah had told me how the week before Nicholas' birthday she was weepy about her little man turning one, she did some maternal nesting trying to get things in order for her family. I am afraid the same feelings have overtaken me this morning. What a whirlwind this past year has been- amazing, tiring, challenging, miraculous, hilarious- all rolled into one little package. Parenthood is so much more than one can ever imagine. Looking back at that tiny baby who was swimming in his newborn clothes you can hardly recognize him as the little boy toddling before me today. Chase has so much personality and spunk (I am afraid he gets that from him mother). I am sad to have grown out of the baby stage and into the toddler stage but I am also excited about watching the many new things that lie ahead. Ryan was just saying how fun it will be when Chase can verbally respond to us. Although with that also comes the "No, I'm not going to"and "Nobody loves me" to name a few. Many more adventures await us! I can't wait to see what kind of little boy he will become- actually I can wait, I want to soak up every toddler moment I can before that too is gone.

I found this poem that I love that summarizes how I am feeling today:

To have a child
is to be given
the world to hold
in your hands...
And the entire universe
to try to fit
inside your heart.

Party Time!

What a fun weekend! On Saturday we went to a birthday party for our friend Nicholas, who turned 1. It was cute- a bunny theme of course. Chase had fun following the bigger kids around and trying to push the babies in their strollers. These are friends we made back in music class and have been playing with since August.
On Sunday, we managed to attend the early service. Then we came home for lunch and an Easter egg hunt. Chase was enjoying finding the eggs and breaking them open. We often play hide and seek so he is a pro. Of course every egg he opened only revealed more Cheerios, of which he got bored with after the first couple. Maybe next year we can have carrot sticks and apple chucks inside :))
